Born and raised in Middlebury, Vermont.
Married to Matt Rand, science researcher, mandolin player and wicked good guy! We have two daughters Annavitte (25), and Karin (22), both avid skiers, adventure seekers, accomplished photographers and really fun people.
I am passionate about my family, spending time in the outdoors exploring new places near and far, and staying healthy.
My love for photography started when I was about 8 years old. Watching my dads silent 16mm movies of his travels around the globe introduced to me the world outside of the Green Mountain State. His keen eye for capturing the cultural beauty of the people and places he traveled captivated me, and so began my love of photography.
Perhaps it is my Scandinavian heritage, but I have always been drawn to unique blends of color, texture, and patterns in nature as well as human made. Whether it be luscious green moss, the pattern of a hand knit sweater, or freshly groomed snow, a child's smile, a bouquet of flowers, a carved wooden door, or a thoughtfully prepared plate of wholesome food, I feel I have an eye for capturing what makes these items distinctive and memorable. I like to capture an image that will give viewers pause to slow down and appreciate what these designs add to our quality of life. For me, a photograph works when even someone completely unfamiliar with the people, places, or things in the photo comes away with an emotion, a feeling, a reaction.
When I take a photo I sometimes feel I am capturing something everyone else missed.
